Lonely Heart

I

I used to be a heart

Without a body to parasitize:

Slowly, unevenly beating

For all my care to keep the rhythm of life.

Some rhythm.

I found a body at long last,

A nobody, but somebody

Agonizing

In the climax of a shadow

Cast in jet black torpor.

II

I thrust my bleeding bulk,

Then waited by a creeping

Surf of blood and sand,

And at the final gasp

Of yesterday’s horizon

Leaped with joy and awe,

And died.
