2011. Brown ink, steel nib and watercolour on paper.
I did a drawing similar to this one back in 2005. Friendship between little girls and siblings is still one of my favourite topics when it comes to depicting childhood and its most cheerful moments. Actually, it’s all about capturing that magic instant. First you have the photograph, then you have the drawing, then you have the magic. That’s the way it works for me, inasmuch as it’s extremely difficult to make a child pose for long periods of time (i.e. more than a minute). For this reason, unless you have some supernatural ability to draw faster than lighting, only photos can save the day and provide you with the right pose, frozen in time, so that you can create something even better than the real thing, a.k.a. “ART”.
